Early in the morning this coming Sunday Josh Kashinsky, our Waiting Room Reader Coordinator, and I will be heading for Table 136 at the Brooklyn Book Festival. We’ll have a hand truck piled high with boxes of CavanKerry Press’ most recent titles. We’ll also have a banner, a sign-up for our e-newsletter sheet and, more than likely, candy to give away. It will be a long day for us—the festival opens at 10am and closes at 6pm—so we’ll have some food and water with us. And coffee…lots of coffee.
Although this is the seventh BBF, this is the first time CavanKerry Press will be a part of its literary marketplace. We won’t be alone: over 150 vendors—presses, journals, writing organizations—will be there with us. Plus the visitors of which, in other years, there were as many as 30,000! Since some CavanKerry authors have promised to stop by to lend a hand, I’m hoping that I’ll have the chance to visit the tables of some of the other small presses. Not only do I enjoy seeing the newest books from other presses but I also enjoy introducing myself to them and, sometimes, talking shop with them.
These events can be loud and crowded and we never sell enough books to cover the costs of going to them. But these events are a wonderful opportunity for CKP to meet readers and writers and for readers and writers to meet CKP. So, if you are planning to attend the festival then stop by Table 136 (near the Information Booth); we look forward to talking to you!
